In my teaching and mentoring journey, I have noticed that many students approach assignments with a sense of frustration, often rooted in the discomfort of “not knowing”. I explain to them that this discomfort is not a roadblock; it’s the spark. The real value of learning isn’t in ticking boxes or following recipes. It’s in exploring the unknown, making connections, and building a deep understanding of how things work. At the risk of sounding like a cliche, “it’s about the journey, not the destination”.
Welcome to Data Deep Diving! This not just another website by a professor or data scientist who thought it would be cool to have some online presence. I intend for this to be a sanctuary for the curious. This is a space for anyone who’s ever had a “what if” or a “why is that” moment, whether in the middle of a work project, during a lunch break, or on a long drive. Here, you’ll find blog posts, videos, and resources that make technology, science, and analytics, not just accessible but engaging and fun.
If you’re ready to dive deep—whether you’re looking to satisfy a curiosity, hone your skills, or explore mentoring and consulting opportunities—I invite you to join me on this journey. Let’s nurture that spark together and see where it takes us.
About Me…
I’m Mohannad Elhamod—a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Questrom School of Business at Boston University. My passion lies in helping students and professionals harness the power of Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics without falling victim to hype or buzzwords. I’m a firm believer in mastering the fundamentals. To truly use any method or framework effectively, you need to understand its strengths, its limitations, and, most importantly, why it works—or doesn’t. My goal is to ignite curiosity and empower others to think critically, experiment boldly, and build their own pathways to understanding.
I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Virginia Tech in 2019, where my interdisciplinary research spanned Machine Learning, Visualization and Interpretability, Physics, and Biology. My academic journey, combined with my professional experiences as a software engineer at Microsoft and a research intern at NASA, has given me a rich, hands-on perspective that I bring to my teaching and collaborations.
Beyond the classroom, I’ve worked with individuals and companies as a mentor and consultant. These experiences are never a one-way street. Working with mentees and collaborators keeps me grounded in real-world challenges and tuned into the latest market trends and innovations. This dynamic exchange constantly nurtures my classroom.
